KCB RFC Eyes Back-to-Back Wins at Prinsloo Sevens

KCB RFC are brimming with confidence as they gear up for the Prinsloo Sevens Rugby Tournament this weekend at the Nakuru Athletics Club, the second leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit.

The bankers, fresh from a narrow 15-14 triumph over Strathmore Leos at the Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa, top the circuit standings with 22 points. They have been placed in Pool C alongside Nondescripts, Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA), and Kisumu RFC.

KCB RFC Head Coach Dennis ‘Ironman’ Mwanja exuded optimism ahead of the tournament during a training session at Ruaraka, saying: “We know the task ahead is not going to be easy, but we are more than ready to take on any opponent we will face. The boys have trained well, and the confidence within the camp is encouraging. We are going all in to win it.”

Following their strong start in Mombasa, KCB are trailed in the standings by Strathmore Leos on 19 points, Kabras Sugar (17), Nakuru RFC (15), and Menengai Oilers (13).

The team has received a boost with the return of Kenya Sevens captain George ‘Japolo’ Ooro, who missed the Driftwood final due to muscle cramps. “Everyone wants to beat KCB at the Prinsloo Sevens. It’s going to be an amazing outing, and I’m ready to leave a mark,” said Ooro, who is expected to reunite with in-form teammate Floyd Wabwire.

Coach Mwanja is expected to retain the core squad from Mombasa, with Jenkins Kipruto, Vincent Onyala, Emmanuel Opondo, Festus Shiasi, Elvis Olukusi, Bob Muhati, Dominic Sande, Steven Osumba, Davies Nyaundi, Michael Wekesa, and Lionel Ajeliti all named for the Nakuru trip.

KCB RFC are aiming to solidify their dominance in the circuit and maintain momentum as title contenders.
