Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s league title-hopefuls Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) bagged a massive win in the fourth leg of the 2023 league against rivals Kenya Pipeline.
The Japheth Munala-led bankers came from a set down to stun the defending champions and African silver medalists for a 3-1 win for dents the latter’s chances of finishing top of the table as the top three teams have now lost one game each.
In the mid-day clash, the oil merchants who went into the match as favourites got everything right but could not shake off KCB who kept fighting only to lose the set as Pipeline won 22-25.
Munala’s charges brought the same fire to the second set but Paul Gitau’s charges seemed to have taken their foot off the gas as they allowed the bankers to boss them in the second set for 25-16 loss to even the match.
In the third set KCB were on a roll and kept their basics locked for the points with spectacular defense handing them yet another 25-16 delivery before killing off the match 25-12 in a dominant display that effectively sunk Pipeline’s dream of another unbeaten season.
In other matches Prisons Kenya fought for a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16) as Post Bank picked a crucial straight-sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) win that firmly puts them in fifth place.
Elsewhere, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) got back to winning ways following Saturday’s loss to KCB as they picked a straight set win over Prisons Nairobi.
