With the date of the elections fast approaching, the Catholic clergy has urged politicians to desist from insults and incitement to violence.
In a joint statement, the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops said the institutions charged with executing the elections, do so in integrity to make sure the process is smooth.
“Our prayer, first and foremost, is that we will run peaceful campaigns, vote peacefully and graciously prepare to respect election outcomes. We continue to demand to all the Institutions concerned in the elections, that they must do all they can to ensure the General Elections are run without any hitch, and that they are Free, Fair and Credible.
Addressing aspirants, the clergy called on the political class to commit to peace, and resolve grievances through courts and not violence.
“From the outset, we wish to insist to the aspirants that they must commit themselves to Kenyans, that they will seek to resolve any grievances through the Judicial systems. We are confident that the Judicial system is fully capable of handling them.”
KCCB also asked Kenyans to join in prayers as the clergy commits the country to God.
“As we head towards the General Elections in August, we invite you to continue praying for our country, that we may have peaceful elections and that the Lord will touch all our leaders to shelve their individual interests and put the country first.”
