Education CS Ezekiel Machogu To Release KCSE Results Today

The 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Is set to be released today on Friday 20th January 2023.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is expected to announce the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices after reports indicated that the marking of the papers had ended.

The 2022 national tests were administered between February 28 and April 1, 2022. KNEC administered the KCSE exam to some 884,263 learners who sat the tests last year. Out of this, 420,845 were female while 405,962 were male.

The marking of the 2022 KCSE examinations started on 2nd January 2023 and was scheduled to end before 20th January to allow the results to be released early.

The education CS may not divulge the specific results for candidates and schools after it emerged that the government is keen to eliminate high stakes in the tests.

Basic education principal secretary (PS) Dr. Pelio Kipsang’ had said earlier that exams will be released before January 23rd before schools reopen. However, the PS said before the Council faced a glitch In its earlier plan.

Parents, teachers, and union officials termed this year’s release of the KCPE national examination results as colorless with no pomp and color. They however welcomed the move saying it would eliminate competition and address some of the ills that came with ranking candidates and schools.

The Standard however requests parents and students to share their results through WhatsApp number for publication:  0111 699 784. Details should include the name of the candidate, index number, passport photo of the candidate, school, and grade attained.

CS Machogu is expected to address policy issues affecting the sector including the selection and admission of students to universities and colleges during the release of the examinations.

He is also expected to address next week’s opening of schools, fees, and other broad transition issues in the education sector.

According to a statement released by a Council dated 10th January, a disruption by CRE paper one examiner had affected the marking of papers.

According to examinations released the previous year, only 1,138 candidates scored the coveted Grade A (Plain) in the 2021 KCSE exam. Out of this number, 349 were female and 789 were male.
