The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) clarified claims that one of its top commanders resigned in a huff after receiving death threats on Friday, April 28.
The Kenyan military stated on its social media platforms that the letter implying that Major General Jeff Nyagah had resigned was false and misleading.
Maj Gen Jeff Mungai Nyagah did not resign, according to the KDF, but his term ended after six months of service in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
“Be informed that President William Ruto has today on the advice of the Defence Council upheld among other recommendations the appointment of Maj Gen Jeff Mungai Nyagah as the General Officer Commanding Western Command (GOC WESTCOM) after a successful 6-month tour as the first Force Commander, East Africa Community Regional Force (FC EACRF) -DRC,” read part of KDF statement.
The Forces further explained that Nyagah’s successor was unveiled immediately after carefully evaluating his role in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“Maj Gen Alphaxard Muthuri Kiugu is the newly appointed FC EACRF – DRC to replace Maj Gen Jeff Nyagah,” KDF confirmed.
The fake letter alleged that Nyagah resigned after unidentified people threatened his life.
Nyagah and other KDF soldiers were also said to have faced frustrations while on a tour of duty in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
