KDF Delivers New Kitchen, water facilities to a school in Boni, Lamu County

Learning at Bahati Njema Primary School in Mkunumbi came to a stand still on Wednesday when the teachers, parents, pupils and school staff assembled to receive a kitchen and a water project courtesy of KDF troops operating under Operation Amani Boni in Lamu County.

The school caters for children from one of the smallest communities, the Sanye. It has ECD learners and grades 1-5, the classrooms were constructed by the county government.

Prior to the construction of the new kitchen and provision of water, the parents and pupils were obligated to deliver water on a rotational schedule, to facilitate the day today running of the school.

This routine often interfered with learning and cohesion among the parents. The dilapidated kitchen at the school also posed safety and health risks.

During the occasion the school Headteacher Mr Mohamed Ali Mbwana expressed his appreciation & highly commended the troops for their support & good will for the Mkunumbi community.

He highlighted the remarkably improved state of security, healthcare outreach & the great efforts put by the KDF in the area to improve levels & standards in delivery of education in the area.

The PTA chairman Mr Said Hederson also applauded the good job done by KDF in the school and Mkunumbi community. He acknowledged that indeed water was a great challenge to the pupils and now it had been solved.

Sentiments also echoed by one of the elders and chairman of the pastoralists, Mzee Kalmey.

The area chief Mr Bagaja commended on the good job being done by KDF and other security agencies in bringing peace within Mkunumbi and Boni enclave at large. The area chief also urged the community to take care of the projects being done at the school.

The Assistant County Commissioner, Mkunumbi applauded the community for the cooperation they are giving to the security agencies and requested them to remain united and share any information concerning security matters with the security teams and local administration within their reach.

He also promised the parents of Bahati Njema primary school that he will follow up with the county government for more improvement of the school.

The Assistant County Commissioner also thanked the community & the school management for their cooperation in support for education & the fight against child marriages.

Commander OAB, Colonel David Chesire addressed the community, commending them for the great cooperation with the security agencies to enhance security in the area.

Noting the determination by the community, he congratulated the parents and the teachers of Bahati Njema Primary School for their efforts & great vision to succeed & improve education levels in the school.

He informed the community that the security agencies deployed in the Boni enclave will continue collaborating with the community to enhance security for lasting peace and development.

The Commander OAB led the KDF troops in handing over the kitchen and water tank project. The troops also donated hand washing buckets to the school.

At the same event, KDF provided a free medical camp to the residents of Bahati Njema village in which over 150 patients were treated, majority of whom were children.

At Mokowe in Lamu KDF troops delivered over 20,000 litres of fresh water to the residents who have a challenge in accessing fresh water.
