Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso Warioba has been appointed as the Commissioner-General of the Kenya Prisons.
This follows the sacking of Wycliffe Ogallo, who has since been arrested following the escape of three dangerous terror convicts from Kamiti Maximum Prison.
Fred Matiangi, Secretary of the Interior Cabinet, Fred Matiangi said Tuesday that preliminary investigations were still ongoing, but that seven Kamiti Maximum Security Prison wardens had been arrested in connection with the Nairobi jailbreak.
Exit points along Kenya’s border have been placed on high alert, according to Matiangi, in case the three tries to flee the country surreptitiously.
Two other commanders at the Kenya Prisons have been arrested for questioning.
On Monday, Mohamed Ali Abikar, Joseph Juma Odhiambo, and Musharaf Abdalla Akhulunga managed to flee the heavily-guarded institution with no reason.
All three were charged with and convicted of terrorism-related offenses, and one of them, Abikar, was serving a 41-year sentence for his role in a terrorist act that killed 148 people.
