Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba will hand over the construction and renovation of four stadiums to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The government’s action is in line with its plan to host the 2027 AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations), the host nation of which will be announced on September 27 this year.
The stadiums to be handed over for upgrading are Nyayo, Kasarani, Kipchoge Keino and Talanta Sports City at Jamhuri grounds.
Talanta Sports Stadium was handed over at 9:00 a.m., Nyayo Stadium will be handed over at 10:30 a.m., Kasarani Stadium at 11:30 a.m. and Kipchoge Keino Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
KDF has been called in for the renovations and construction of the stadia owing to their construction of the 10,000-seater Ulinzi sports complex in record time.
Kenya is bidding to co-host the football championship with Uganda and Tanzania and they will face competition from Algeria, Botswana and Egypt who submitted individual bids.
