KEBS Names Acting MD

Esther Ngari has been named acting managing director of the Kenya Bureau of Standards for a six-month period.

Betty Maina, Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization, Trade, and Enterprise Development, made the appointment, which takes effect immediately.

“I hereby appoint you as the Acting Managing Director to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) with effect from 27th July 2022 for a period of 6 months or until the Court of Appeal determines or stays the judgement of the High Court, whichever is earlier,” reads part of her letter of appointment.

Ngari succeeds Col (Rtd) Bernard Njiraini, whose service was cut short by a court judgement that ruled his appointment was illegal.

Ngari is the second female to lead the standards assurance agency, following Eva Oduor, who held the position in 2012.

Her nomination followed the Kebs board’s suggestion, which sent two candidates to the CS for consideration.

Ngari was the agency’s Director of Standards prior to her appointment.Ngari has been lauded for her exemplary work in creating new standards that were previously non-existent in the country.

Her appointment was communicated through Chief Administrative Secretary David Osiany.

Osiany has been in charge of the affairs of the Trade ministry in the absence of the CS who is away in Ghana on government duty.
