Keiyo South MP Threatens to Stop East Africa Rally Event Over Poor Roads

Gideon Kimaiyo, the Member of Parliament for Keiyo South, has issued a stern warning regarding the upcoming East Africa Rally set to traverse his constituency this weekend.

In a Facebook post, Kimaiyo stressed the need for road maintenance before permitting the rally to take place.

The planned rally will cover several roads in Keiyo South, including: Hz to Emsea – Friday

Kipsaos-Kapkayo-Ainamoi on Saturday and

Cheploch-Nyaru on Sunday

Kimaiyo expressed his deep concern about the state of the roads, particularly the Kipsaos-Kapkayo route, which he says has been neglected by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).

“We love the safari rally, but we cannot allow it to go on until the relevant authorities have graded and murramed the roads,” he stated emphatically.

The MP revealed that he has made numerous trips to KERRA’s Nairobi office—52 times, to be exact—pleading for action on the Kipsaos-Kapkayo road, which reportedly was under construction but has not seen significant progress since the contractor abandoned the site.

In a rallying cry to his constituents, Kimaiyo urged local residents to take a stand for their rights. “I call on wanainchi to BLOCK THESE ROADS on the said days. Weka mawe. Angusha mti. KAMA MBAYA MBAYA… If police come to arrest people, they should start with me,” he declared, calling for collective action against ongoing neglect.

It remains to be seen whether the East Africa Rally will proceed as planned or if local protests will force a change in course.
