Omwenga Murder: Tycoon’s Bodyguard Insists Innocence

The primary suspect in the gruesome murder of Kelvin Omwenga has told the Court that the deceased shot himself dead on a fateful day.

Robert Ouko who was found to be having a case to answer in the unlawful use of the firearm that killed Kelvin Omwenga has told Court that he did not shoot Kelvin.

According to Ouko, Kelvin Omwenga had retained the firearm throughout the day and towards the evening he asked him (Kelvin) to hand over the pistol to him (Robert) for safe custody.

“When we came back to the house, I asked Kelvin Omwenga to hand over the pistol so that I can take it back to the safe. I wanted to proceed home because I was feeling exhausted from working throughout the day,” said Robert.

Robert told Court that he told Kelvin to hand over the pistol at a private place because he knew the law did not allow the handling of the gun in public.

He proceeded to tell Court that Kelvin proposed that they go to his room so that he could give the gun.

“When we got to his room he proceeded to the wardrobe and produced the gun, I immediately noticed that the gun was already cocked then I told him “Kelvin wacha kucheza na hii kitu, wewe rudisha io kitu chini, io kitu ikitoka imetoka” then he told me ” bro nimecheza na hii kitu sana”” Robert told Court.

It was at this moment according to the accused that the deceased extended the gun to him with the nozzle the deceased.

“At that time we were having a conversation about him going to Dubai then I heard him say “Ndugu io kitu nimechapa” then I saw him falling to the ground. At that time I was confused.” Said, Robert.

In the case, Robert Ouko was tasked to defend himself in the shooting that led to the death of Kelvin Omwenga on August 21, 2020.

He has so far maintained he is innocent and that the deceased shot himself.

Today both the prosecution and defence closed their case and now all the eyes turn to the trial magistrate SPM Bernard Ochoi who will give the determination in the case which will either send Robert Ouko to prison or set him free.
