Lusaka Urges Next Parliament To Re-consider Impeachment Law

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has urged lawmakers in the 13th Parliament to make the passage of the impeachment law a priority in order to facilitate a more effective process.

In his final communication to Senators before the Senate adjourned indefinitely, Lusaka expressed regret that the Senate could not finalize the Impeachment Procedure Bill under his leadership.

The Speaker, who is a frontrunner in the Bungoma Gubernatorial race, stated that it is critical for MPs to close legal and governance gaps that were highlighted during the impeachment process of governors Granton Samboja, Anne Waiguru, Mohamed Abdi Mohamud, Ferdinard Waititu, and Mike Sonko.

The passage of the third basis for revenue allocation among county governments, according to Lusaka, was the highlight of his term as Senate President, stating that presiding over the debates in this process was difficult.

The Senate Speaker thanked the members for their cooperation and wished them luck as they campaigned ahead of the August 9 General Elections.
