The Board of Directors of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), led by Chairperson Ms. Winfridah Ngumi, conducted an inspection tour of major road projects in central and northern Kenya, including the completed Kenol–Sagana (Lot 1), Sagana–Marua (Lot 2), and the ongoing Isiolo–Kula Mawe Road.
The Kenol–Sagana–Marua Highway Improvement Project, a key component of Kenya’s Vision 2030 development strategy, is transforming a historically congested 84-kilometre stretch into a modern dual carriageway.
Lot 1 spans 48 km from Kenol to Sagana, while Lot 2 covers the 36 km stretch to Marua. Once notorious for traffic snarls and safety concerns, the corridor now represents a flagship in modern highway design, enhancing trade flow and regional integration between Nairobi and northern Kenya.
During the visit, the KeNHA Board assessed construction quality, implementation timelines, and addressed challenges affecting the ongoing works.
The delegation emphasized that the upgraded corridor is not only pivotal to economic activity in Mt. Kenya and beyond, but also a gateway to the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor.
“This inspection reaffirms our commitment to delivering high-impact infrastructure that spurs inclusive economic development,” said Ms. Ngumi.
With the dual carriageway nearing completion and extensions like Isiolo–Kula Mawe in progress, Kenya continues its steady march toward becoming a regional logistics hub through smart infrastructure investments.
