KeNHA, NTSA Partner To Track Down Vehicles Without Number Plates

The National Transport and Safety Authority will partner with the Kenya National Highways Authority to track down trucks that hide or remove their license plates.

The vice, seen among sand and building material transporters, has led to offenders dodging virtual weigh-bridges.

KENHA Director in charge of Nyanza Engineer Julius Mak’odero, while addressing the press after a stakeholder engagement with truckers, said the culprits risk hefty fines running into millions for the double offence.

“Truck drivers should stick to the traffic act and avoid bending the law to escape weighbridges. We will partner with the DCI and the NTSA to ensure those found culpable are punished according to the law.”

Hiding or driving without number plates is a traffic offence in Kenya.

Those found guilt face fine of Ksh300,000 or serve a jail term not exceeding one year.

KeNHA said the rogue truck drivers remove number plates while approaching virtual weigh-bridges, and return them when clear.
