KeNHA Spend 25B On Nyanza Roads In Financial Year Ending June 2023

According to the financial year ending June 2023 Treasury allocations, KeNHA made provisions to fund the maintenance activities for the entire national trunk road network in Nyanza. 

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is set to spend over 2 Billion on road maintenance in the Nyanza region. 

According to the financial year ending June 2023 Treasury allocations, KeNHA made provisions to fund the maintenance activities for the entire national trunk road network in Nyanza. 

The authority will execute 40 contracts for road maintenance in the region. 

A significant number of these contracts were multi-year contracts with the shortest duration ending In March 2024 (Q3) and that with the longest duration ending In March 2026.

In the 2023/24 Financial year, KeNHA allocated a budget of KES 1.85 Billion for the maintenance of the entire national trunk road network In Nyanza, which is 1,555km long. 

The roads include the Muhuru – Masara Road (B1) and the Sindo – Nyagwethe – Kiabuya Road (B2) – which forms part of the Lake Victoria Ring Road (Lots 5 & 6) as the Authority awaits to secure funding for the upgrading of Lots 5 & 6 of the ring road to bitumen standards.

KeNHA has also set aside a budget of KES 3.4 Billion for the upgrading of the 170km-Sirare Corridor (Isebania – Kisii – Ahero Road A1) which also includes 130kms of feeder roads in Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, and Nyamira Counties. 

Ksh 833 Million has been allocated for the upgrading of Mamboleo – Miwani – Chemelil- Muhoroni (Kipsitet) Road (B132). 

The authority has also set aside Ksh 260 Million for the completion of Kisumu Boys – Mamboleo Road (A1), Dhogoye Bridge, and the Ahero & Kericho Interchanges.
