KeNHA Steps up Safety and Service Checks along North Rift Road Corridor

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has launched a comprehensive review of roadworks and occupational safety standards across the North Rift, with a focus on the 295-kilometre Kapenguria–Konyao–Alale–Loima–Lodwar corridor.

The site visit, led by North Rift Region Director Eng. Philemon Kipkoech, included officers from the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS) and Alehu OCS. The inspection spanned all ongoing maintenance and structural upgrade works along the B70 road, a key transport artery serving remote regions of West Pokot and Turkana counties.

Alongside technical evaluations, the team conducted an audit of the Lodwar Sub-Regional Office to assess compliance with workplace safety regulations. The exercise was aimed at ensuring alignment with KeNHA’s internal standards as well as national provisions under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007.

“Our mandate goes beyond roads. We are equally concerned with the welfare of our staff and the communities we serve,” said Eng. Kipkoech. “Safety is a collective responsibility, and it must be embedded both in our infrastructure and in our organisational culture.”

The review included examination of working conditions, equipment safety, and emergency preparedness across office and field environments. Officials noted the importance of continuous dialogue on operational challenges and staff wellbeing, particularly in remote assignments where logistical pressures are high.

The site visit comes amid broader efforts by KeNHA to improve transparency and accountability in project delivery. By combining infrastructure audits with internal welfare assessments, the agency is seeking to integrate service delivery with sustainable work environments.

Eng. Kipkoech concluded the visit by reiterating KeNHA’s commitment to efficiency, safety, and responsive service as part of its strategic development blueprint.
