A collaborative effort between the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHa) and the County Government has led to the planned improvement of 60 kilometers of roads in the area.
This project was reaffirmed during a physical site visit carried out today by key stakeholders, including KeNHa engineers, representatives from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, and members of the County Assembly from Thika Constituency.
The proposed upgrades aim to enhance traffic flow for motorists entering, exiting, and navigating within the increasingly industrialized town.
Thika is on a transformative journey to establish itself as an industrial smart city, making these road improvements essential for supporting local and regional economic activities.
The strategic plan includes dualing vital roads such as Gatitu-Kilomambogo and the Thika-Kenol highway, which will be expanded with additional lanes on both sides to accommodate growing traffic volumes.
Key roads within Thika Town, including Heile Selassie-Upper Highway, General Kago Road, and Kenyatta Highway, will undergo significant improvements, enhancing accessibility to businesses and residential areas.
Area MCAs, led by Deputy Speaker Hon. John Njiru (Hospital Ward) and Hon. Kennedy Mwangi (Thika Town), accompanied county officials who expressed strong support for the initiative.
Further upgrades are planned for critical intersections, including the Garissa Road-Thika Bypass and the Delmonte junction, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing the town’s evolving transportation needs.
With these developments, Thika is poised to bolster its infrastructure, supporting both local businesses and future growth as it transitions into a dynamic industrial center.
