The National Police Service (NPS) has issued an update regarding the repatriation of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who lost his life in a road accident in Haiti.
In a statement on Thursday, September 25, NPS said arrangements have been finalized to bring his remains back to Kenya, with the arrival set for Friday, September 26.
“The body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a tragic road traffic accident on September 1, 2025, is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi on September 26, 2025,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the NPS confirmed the death of Benedict Kabiru, a Kenyan police officer who was reported missing in Haiti in March 2025.
In a statement, NPS confirmed that Kabiru was reported missing following an ambush while serving with the multinational peacekeeping mission in Haiti.
This ambush occurred on a critical supply route, and police authorities followed proper protocols in handling the crisis, as evidenced by their immediate family notification procedures.
“The National Police Service promptly informed the officer’s family of the incident and has remained in close contact, providing updates as the situation evolved,” the statement read.
NPS also confirmed that the family was kept in the loop throughout the months-long search operation, with regular briefings provided as new information became available about the missing officer’s fate.
“Since then, the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), has been conducting a meticulous search and rescue operation to locate the missing officer,” thestatement added.
This operation involved both ground teams and aerial reconnaissance across the gang-controlled territories where the officer disappeared, with international forces coordinating closely with local Haitian units despite the extreme security risks.
“In a tragic turn of events, the National Police Service (NPS) received information regarding the death of the missing police officer, and the family has been notified,” the statement further read.
The NPS confirmed that this information came from intelligence sources in Haiti.
However, officials did not specify whether the confirmation came from Haitian authorities, international partners, or other sources within the mission.
“The NPS extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officer and assures them of its unwavering and continued support during this time of profound sorrow,” the statement concluded.
