Kenya Airways Staff Face Salary Cuts

Kenya Airways (KQ) has had to revert to wage cuts due to the government’s failure to fund the Sh20 billion rescue package.

Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka claims that the funds have not arrived in his account for a month after the Treasury allocated them in the supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2021/22.

As a result, the airline has been compelled to cut workers’ pay in order to save money, with the promise of reimbursing the deducted salary once the Treasury sends the bailout billions.

After a protracted dispute with the pilots’ union, KQ started full payment of workers’ salaries in December 2021.
