Kenya and UK Launch Ambitious 2025–2030 Strategic Partnership to Boost Trade, Jobs, and Climate Action

Kenya and the United Kingdom have unveiled a bold new Strategic Partnership spanning 2025 to 2030, aimed at deepening cooperation across trade, climate action, innovation, and security. The agreement was sealed during bilateral talks between Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

The new pact, described as “modern and forward-looking,” seeks to build on the longstanding historical ties between the two nations and focus on mutual prosperity through inclusive and impactful development.

“Our focus is firmly on impact,” said CS Mudavadi. “This partnership will drive job creation, foster collaboration among researchers and innovators, and advance environmental protection.”

Currently, bilateral trade between Kenya and the UK stands at Kshs.218 billion, with British firms among the largest employers in Kenya. The partnership is expected to further invigorate both economies. For the UK, it will unlock up to Kshs.177 billion in value through export finance, defence manufacturing, and engineering jobs, particularly in regions like Northampton and County Durham.

In a significant financial development, Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance market, will establish a regional presence in Nairobi. This move positions Kenya’s capital as a gateway to East Africa’s Kshs.88 billion insurance market and reinforces its role as a growing hub for international capital and enterprise.

The agreement, signed between the Nairobi International Financial Centre and Lloyd’s, will enable Kenyan businesses to access specialised risk solutions, enhance economic resilience, and open new avenues for growth.

Both nations reaffirmed that the partnership is rooted in shared ambition and mutual respect, and is poised to deliver lasting benefits for future generations.
