Kenya’s national immunisation campaign received a major boost today after Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale flagged off a consignment of 6.2 million vaccine doses at Afya House in Nairobi.
The consignment includes 3 million doses of the Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine, used to prevent tuberculosis, and 3.2 million doses of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). The vaccines are expected to be distributed to counties across the country, with a special focus on reaching underserved and remote communities.

Speaking during the event, CS Duale urged county governments, through the Council of Governors (CoG) and County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) for Health, to prioritise collection of the vaccines from regional depots and ensure timely delivery to health facilities.
“This flag-off is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to safeguarding the health and future of our children,” said Duale. “We must work together to ensure no child is left behind.”
He commended the swift collaboration with immunisation partners, particularly UNICEF, for the rapid procurement and delivery of the vaccines. He also reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to maintaining momentum in the national immunisation agenda.
Parents and caregivers were encouraged to visit nearby health centres to have their children vaccinated and to catch up on any missed immunisations.
The event was attended by Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga (Medical Services) and Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards), Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, CoG CEO Ms. Mary Mwiti, and representatives from UNICEF and the World Health Organization.
