Kenya To Develop Highway To Congo

Written By Vanessa Kariuki ||

Kenya is planning to construct an international highway between Mombasa and the Republic of Congo in order to enhance trade between the two countries.

H.E. Jean Jacques Bouya, Minister for State, Regional Planning, and Infrastructure of the Republic of Congo, visited CS Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen at his office to discuss progress.

The two sides talked about how to turn the Mombasa to Point Noire international highway into a significant continental transit corridor that would increase trade and generate employment opportunities.

In addition to measures for further cooperation in air services between the two nations’ respective national carriers, the discussion covered the restart and improvement of aviation linkages between Kenya and Congo.

They were joined by the respective PSs for Transport and Roads, Mohamed Daghar and Eng. Mbugua.

Because the road would traverse their borders before crossing into the Republic of Congo, various neighboring countries will be involved in the project.

Several critical infrastructure projects, on the other hand, were said to have taken center stage throughout the deliberations.

If approved, the megaproject will become one of the country’s few international highways, joining the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project.

Under the project initiated by former President Mwai Kibaki, it combined the inter-regional highways from Lamu to Isiolo, Isiolo to Juba (South Sudan) and Isiolo to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
