Kenya COVID-19 cases surpass 38,000 mark, amid pending lift of restrictions

Kenya has crossed 38,000 Covid-19 cases, after confirming a total of 244 new infections.

While announcing the unfortunate milestone, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe said Kenya now has 38,115 cases of covid-19, out of 540,308 samples tested since March 23rd.

Nairobi led counties with (63) new cases and was followed by Nakuru with (59), Kisii with (23), Garissa with (16), Kisumu with (14), Mombasa with (13) and Kiambu with (10).

Busia reported (9), Trans Nzoia with (7), Turkana with (6), Kajiado and Kericho with (5) each, Uasin Gishu, Narok, Laikipia and Siaya with (2) each, and Kakamega, Marsabit, Bungoma, Meru, Murang;a, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi with (1) each.

He also confirmed the youngest case being a three months old infant and the oldest, 85.

In terms of gender, males numbered 157 and females 87.

The ministry also announced that 40 more patients had been discharged, raising the total number of recoveries to 24,621. Thirty of them were under the home-based care programme and 10 at various health facilities.

However, the country’s death toll escalated to 691, after two more people died from the virus.

Despite the alarming statistic, the state is hopeful that in his Presidential address, Uhuru Kenyatta will reopen the economy to salvage what is left of Kenyans who have been put off work/businesses.
