Kenya deaths near 300, as CS Kagwe urges responsibility from Restaurant owners

Kenya’s coronavirus tally has soared to 18,581 after 606 people were tested positive for the disease – By Gerald Gekara.

In his daily briefing, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the cases were sourced from 4,888 samples, with the samples tested so far clocking 284,500.

In terms of counties, Nairobi recorded (448) cases, Kiambu (54), Kajiado (25), Machakos (16), Uasin Gishu and Nakuru (11), Kericho (9), Busia, and Mombasa (7), Garissa (6), Bomet (3), Nyeri, Narok, Nandi each having (2), while Embu, Lamu, and Murang’a reporting (1) case each.

75 more people were confirmed to have recovered, further pushing Kenya’s total recoveries to 7,883.

However, 14 more were confirmed dead. Kenya’s fatalities now edge 300.

CS Kagwe cautioned Kenyan restaurant and bar owners against selling alcohol, saying they risk losing their licenses for good.

“Public Health Officers will go round closing down establishments flouting regulations. They will use the police to enforce this. County Governments will be more vigilant to enforce this. Fuata Masharti. “

He added that health officials will go round to arrest those who have turned their homes into drinking joints, as well as those found drinking at parking lots.
