Politicians and their supporters have been urged by a civil society to exercise restraint and refrain from inciting tensions that could quickly lead to violence in the nation.
The Angaza Movement have also expressed concern about the rise in what they have dubbed deliberate misinformation and disinformation, and they have urged the public to check the facts before posting anything on social media.
They include over 100,000 worker-representative trade unions and associations, as well as head teachers, healthcare providers, attorneys, experts in the built environment, and human rights advocates.
In a joint statement, they praised Kenyans for participating in the elections peacefully and urged restraint as the results are confirmed at the national tallying center.
“We remind all Kenyans that the constitutional deadline of seven days for the announcement of presidential results has not lapsed. We call for patience and calm as IEBC verifies the election results and announces the duly next elected President,” Angaza added.
They also urged all political candidates and their supporters to permit the counting process to proceed constitutionally and logically, and they urged any parties who felt wronged to file a lawsuit.
