Kenya Expresses Concern Over Escalating Middle East Tensions

Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs, condemned the recent escalation of hostilities between Iran, Israel, and Lebanon, which intensified with Iran’s missile barrage on Israel amidst an ongoing Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon.

The situation has deteriorated sharply since October 1, 2024, leading to heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.

The Republic of Kenya expressed profound concern not only for the safety of its citizens living in the affected areas but also for the broader ramifications this conflict may have on global oil prices and the economies of East African nations.

“Our foremost priority is the welfare of the Kenyan diaspora in Israel, Iran, and Lebanon,” Mudavadi stated, emphasizing the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad.

Mudavadi urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize dialogue in resolving disputes, in line with the United Nations Charter.

He reiterated Kenya’s dedication to peaceful conflict resolution and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in maintaining stability in the region.

In light of these developments, the government strongly encouraged all Kenyans in the Middle East to register their presence with Kenyan diplomatic missions or through established diaspora hotlines.
