Kenya is exploring new international trade opportunities following a high-level meeting between the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and the Dominican Republic. KNCCI Vice President Mustafa Ramadhan hosted Ambassador Erika Álvarez Rodríguez, who represents the Caribbean nation in Kenya and South Africa, for bilateral talks aimed at enhancing economic collaboration.
During the courtesy visit, Ambassador Álvarez presented a range of investment opportunities available in the Dominican Republic, positioning the country as a strategic entry point for Kenyan businesses targeting the United States, Central America, the Caribbean, and the European Union.
“The Dominican Republic is uniquely positioned thanks to our preferential trade agreements with major global economies, including DR-CAFTA, the EU-CARIFORUM Economic Partnership Agreement, and the UK–CARIFORUM deal,” said Ambassador Álvarez. “This provides unmatched market access for Kenyan exporters and manufacturers.”
She highlighted key sectors ripe for collaboration, including tourism, energy, mining, finance, and telecommunications, noting that both countries are on a growth trajectory in these industries. The ambassador also underscored the Dominican Republic’s investor-friendly environment, which features 100% exemptions on national and municipal taxes, including income tax, VAT, import duties, and levies on fuel and insurance.
KNCCI Vice President Ramadhan lauded the engagement as “a timely opportunity for Kenyan entrepreneurs to think globally and expand beyond traditional markets.” He reaffirmed KNCCI’s commitment to facilitating trade missions and partnerships to explore the emerging prospects offered by the Dominican Republic.
The meeting is expected to catalyze deeper economic ties and pave the way for structured trade and investment dialogues. Both nations expressed a shared interest in strengthening South-South cooperation and diversifying their economic partnerships beyond traditional allies.
