The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs (MFDA) has commenced the Coast edition of the Kenya Foreign Policy Mashinani, a two-day public sensitisation exercise aimed at educating Kenyans on the key provisions of Sessional Paper No. 1 on Kenya’s Foreign Policy 2025.
The initiative, which began in Kisumu in October 2025, has now reached Mombasa, before expanding to other parts of the country.
The programme will bring together members of the public from Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Kwale, and Lamu counties at the Bandari Maritime Academy, where they will be briefed on the eight thematic areas of the revised foreign policy.
The sessions will also provide insights into the operations of various government agencies and their respective interests, highlighting opportunities for partnerships in advancing Kenya’s national interests.
The MFDA team leading the programme is headed by Director-General Ambassador Josphat Maikara, accompanied by Ambassador Lucy Kiruthu, Ambassador Joseph Masila, and Ms. Emma Gicheha from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs. At the Coast launch, Ambassador Maikara met with Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Nur Hassan to underscore the importance of collaboration between national and county authorities in outreach efforts.
The public sensitisation in Mombasa will be officially launched on 26th November 2025 by Dr. Korir SingOei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, alongside Mombasa Governor His Excellency Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.
The Mashinani process is part of the government’s broader strategy to engage citizens in foreign policy matters, ensuring public awareness and participation in shaping Kenya’s international engagements.
