Kenya Holds Ivory Coast To Nil-Draw In Malawi

The Harambee Stars held African champions Ivory Coast to a goalless draw in their 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday at the Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.

This is a significant accomplishment for the Stars, as they become the first team to steal a point from the Elephants, who had been on a three-game winning streak in Group F.

Kenya is currently ranked 107th in the men’s FIFA World Rankings, with Ivory Coast in 38th place.

Kenya had several golden opportunities to take the lead, most notably when captain Michael Olunga squandered a fantastic chance following a quick counterattack.

Diakite Oumar, Ivory Coast’s substitute, came close to securing victory for the Elephants, but his shot hit the woodwork.

Kenya is still third in the group, with five points, trailing Gabon on six and Ivory Coast on ten points.

Line up:

Kenya: Patrick Matasi, Alphonse Omija, Daniel Anyembe, Johnstone Omurwa, Aboud Omar, Anthony Akumu, Richard Odada, Timothy Ouma, Rooney Onyango, Kenneth Muguna, Michael Olunga

Ivory Coast: Fofana Yahia, Ndicka Obite Evan, Singo Wilfried, Konan Ghislain, Boly Willy, Kessie Franck, Fofana Seko, Adingra Simon, Latte Lath Junior, Boga Jérémie, Amani Lazare.
