Kenya May Cut Down COVID Vaccination Over India Supply Shortages

The Ministry of Health will scale down its COVID-19 vaccination drive to meet new reports of a global shortage of the jab. – By Gerald Gekara.

Pressure to meet global and local demand pushed India to hold vaccine exports after an unprecedented surge in infections.

Kenya, will be forced to slow down its vaccination campaign, inorder to curb acute shortage of the vaccine.

So far, the Ministry of health has carried out vaccinations to the tune of 30,000 to 40,000 jabs a day, but according to inside sources, these would only a few days.

The situation is complicated by the uncertainty around the possibility of having the second shot from a different vaccine.

So far, Kenya has confirmed 145,670 positive cases, with 1,561,838 samples tested thus far.

As of the time of this publication, 422,021 people have been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine.

110,523 are Health Workers, 34,150 Security Officers, 59,906 Teachers & 217,442 are other members of the public who include those at 58 years and above.
