Kenya Met Lists Regions Expected to Receive Rainfall This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has predicted rainfall across 7 regions this week.

In a weather forecast for November 11 to November 17, 2025, the Met Department said rainfall is expected in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and the Coastal region. 

The South-Eastern Lowlands, Western, and North-Eastern Kenya regions will also experience downpours this week.

The weatherman also noted that most parts of the country are likely to remain dry and sunny throughout the week.

“Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry. However, rainfall is expected in some areas of the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coastal region, South-Eastern Lowlands, Western, and North-Eastern Kenya,” read the forecast in part.

According to the Met Department, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to have sunny intervals in the mornings, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy; however, showers may occur in a few places.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi and Kiambu counties, mornings are likely to be cloudy, with occasional rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. In the afternoon and night, rainfall is likely to occur over a few places.

The Coast region is expected to have sunny intervals during the day, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy. However, morning and afternoon showers are likely to occur over a few areas.

At the same time, the weatherman said maximum daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya, as well as parts of the South-Eastern Lowlands and Western Kenya.

Meanwhile, parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro are expected to experience minimum night temperatures of below 10°C.

Last week, Kenya Met predicted rainfall in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coastal, South-Eastern Lowlands, Western, and North-Eastern regions

KMD noted that heavy rainfall of above 50mm in 24 hours was observed in Makueni, Garissa, Kitui, Murang’a, and Migori Counties.

The Mbitini Station in Makueni recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall of 70.4mm on November 8, 2025, while the highest seven-day rainfall was recorded at Kangema Station in Murang’a County.

Mandera recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 38.4°C on November 3, while Nyahururu recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 6.9°C on November 5.
