The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in six regions this week.
In a weather forecast on Tuesday October 21, the Met Department predicted that the intensity of rainfall will increase across several parts of the Central Highlands including Nairobi as well as the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya regions.
The South-eastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya regions will also experience heavy downpour.
The weatherman advised Kenyans living within the six regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
“Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur over some parts of these regions. Residents are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions,” the Met Department stated.
In the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, morning rains are likely to occur over few places followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms in several areas. Nights showers are likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places.
In the highlands east of the Rift Valley, mornings are likely to be cloudy, with occasional rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals.
Afternoon showers are likely to occur in a few to several areas, while nights are expected to be partly cloudy, with occasional showers.
At the same time, the Met Department predicted that maximum daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coastal, North-eastern, and North-western regions.
Meanwhile minimum night-time temperatures of below 10°C are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
In its weather review for the period between October 13 and 19, 2025, KMD noted that rainfall was recorded over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the Lake Victoria Basin.
The Eldoret meteorological station recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall amount of 40.0 mm on October 19 2025 while the Mandera meteorological station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 38.0°C on October 13, 2025.
The Nyahururu meteorological station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature of 4.6°C on October 14, 2025.
The forecast comes weeks after the Met Department issued a weather alert warning Nairobi residents of heavy downpour.
In a notice released on Friday, October 3, the weatherman warned that rains would intensify across parts of the Nairobi Metropolis with conditions ranging from moderate to hefty rainfall.
The Met Department cautioned that isolated afternoon and evening storms may develop, potentially leading to localized flooding, traffic disruptions, and slippery roads across the capital city.
