The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a warning for moderate to heavy rainfall expected across various regions from Friday, March 7 to Tuesday, March 11.

In its advisory, KMD indicated that eight regions will experience rain, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Central and South Rift Valley.

The Coastal Region, Southeastern Lowlands, Northwest, and southern Coast are also set to see rainfall, with isolated storms predicted over the weekend.

Sunny and dry conditions will dominate for most of the week, but rain is anticipated to intensify from Saturday afternoon, particularly in the affected areas.

Counties expected to experience the heaviest rainfall include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, and Embu, among others.

Additionally, Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Kisii, and surrounding counties will experience heavy rains starting Sunday.

However, the North Eastern counties—Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—are expected to remain dry and sunny.

The department also cautioned that temperatures could exceed 30°C in most areas, except for parts of the Highlands, where temperatures will remain cooler.

Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots are expected in Northwestern and Northeastern regions.
