During his familiarisation visit to the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project Model Farm yesterday, Mr. Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, was welcomed by Mr. Ephantus Kimotho, Principal Secretary State Department for Irrigation.
After submitting a Project Implementation Proposal (PIP) that was accepted in accordance with the PPP Act of 2021, the State Department for Irrigation through the National Irrigation Authority has engaged Twiga Foods to carry out food production on the finished 10,000 acres.
With the right type, fertilizer regimen, plant spacing, and soil amendment techniques, Twiga Food is currently testing 538 acres of maize in the hopes of producing a yield of 10MT per Ha.
In this pilot phase, 538 acres of maize are being produced on trial; these acres are being maintained according to several experimental treatments, and they are progressing very well. According to agronomists, there will be 40–45 bags per acre.
With such a promising yield, the PS was assured that the nation was on the right track to achieving food security and carrying out the direction of His Excellency, President Hon. William Samoei Ruto, PhD., C.G.H. to use PPP to fully use Galana Kulalu land for that purpose.
Mr. Felix Koskei, the head of the public service, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in following the president’s orders and urged the State Department to complete its ongoing assessments of the submitted PIPs.
