Kenya Partners with China to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Efforts

Written By Lisa Murimi

In a bid to bolster anti-corruption strategies, Kenya’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) announced a new partnership with China.

The collaboration aims to enhance Kenya’s capacity-building initiatives in the fight against corruption, EACC Chair Dr. David Oginde and CEO Twalib Mbarak revealed on Tuesday.

The announcement followed a meeting between the EACC and China’s Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and Vice Chairperson of the National Supervisory Commission (NSC), Fu Kui, who is in Kenya to formalize the partnership.

Fu Kui and Li Xi, a senior member of China’s Communist Party, met with EACC officials at the Commission’s Integrity Centre headquarters in Nairobi.

Fu Kui expressed his strong commitment to supporting Kenya’s anti-corruption initiatives, particularly through advanced training and capacity-building programs.

Dr. Oginde emphasized the importance of international cooperation to tackle corruption effectively, expressing gratitude for China’s ongoing support.

CEO Mbarak highlighted how the partnership’s training efforts have equipped the EACC with essential skills and competencies needed for its anti-corruption mandate.

This collaboration, one of several the EACC has forged, aligns with its strategic objectives, reinforcing previous Memorandums of Understanding with institutions like the Kenya Revenue Authority and Financial Reporting Centre.
