Kenya Police Football Club have been crowned champions of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) for the first time in their history, following a spirited 1-1 draw against outgoing title holders Gor Mahia on the final day of the 2024/25 season.
The match, held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi on Sunday, served as the climax of what has been a fairy-tale season for the law enforcers, who capped off a dramatic comeback under the stewardship of Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije.
Stylish Arrival, Historic Achievement
In scenes rarely witnessed in Kenyan football, the Kenya Police players made a flamboyant entrance to the stadium — chauffeured in a convoy of luxury vehicles including Mercedes-Benz cars and a limousine.
Dressed in coordinated blue suits, red ties, and white sneakers, the champions showcased a blend of class and confidence ahead of their coronation.
Despite a lacklustre turnout from fans, several high-profile dignitaries graced the occasion. ODM leader Raila Odinga, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, Police FC patron and PS Raymond Omollo, and Deputy Inspector-General Gilbert Masengeli were among those present.
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, and club chairman Nyale Munga also witnessed the historic moment.

Former Harambee Stars defender George Sunguti presented the league trophy, marking the first time the newly unveiled silverware was handed out.
The Football Kenya Federation has yet to confirm whether this will be the official trophy in future seasons.
Match Recap: A Champion’s Guard of Honour
The day began with a gesture of sportsmanship as Gor Mahia players formed a guard of honour for the new champions.
Winger Shariff Musa gave Gor the lead in the 24th minute, only for defender David Okoth to draw Police level in the second half with a composed finish in the 56th minute.
Though the draw didn’t alter the final standings, it symbolised the resilience that has come to define Police FC’s campaign.
Police had already secured the league title the previous weekend with a narrow 1-0 win over Shabana FC in Machakos — a result that took them to an unassailable 64 points.
Sunday’s draw brought their final tally to 65 points, six clear of their nearest challengers.
From Strugglers to Kings
Founded in 2014, Kenya Police FC’s journey has been anything but straightforward. After their promotion to the FKF-PL in September 2021, the club spent years in the shadows. This season began ominously, with just one win in their first eight matches.
Everything changed with the arrival of coach Ndayiragije on November 29, 2024. Despite losing his first match in charge to AFC Leopards, the team went on a 13-match unbeaten streak, racking up 10 wins and three draws to mount a stunning comeback in the title race.
They ended the season with 18 wins, 11 draws, and just five losses.
Veteran defender and captain David “Cheche” Ochieng’ was overcome with emotion, having won his second league title — 13 years after his first with Tusker FC in 2012.
“I thank God. This is a journey of hard work and discipline. I dedicate this trophy to my mother, who has been our family’s rock,” said the elated captain.
Coach Ndayiragije lauded the determination and commitment of his players and technical staff.
Kenya Police FC will now shift their focus to continental football, as they prepare to represent the country in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League — a new chapter in their remarkable rise.
