Kenya Police FC’s head coach Anthony Kimani is optimistic ahead of their highly anticipated CAF Confederation Cup clash against Egyptian giants Zamalek SC on Saturday.
As the first-time participants gear up for the first leg of their second preliminary round match, Kimani emphasized the team’s strategy of exploiting Zamalek’s vulnerabilities to secure a favorable result.
“We have a great respect for Zamalek; they are well-established with a remarkable history in this competition. However, we are keenly aware of their weak points and plan to capitalize on them,” Kimani remarked. The defensive champions arrive in Nairobi, and the home side hopes to make a significant impact that could provide an advantage as they prepare for the return leg in Cairo next weekend.
Having advanced to this round after a narrow 1-0 aggregate victory over Ethiopia Coffee, Police FC is keen to build on their momentum. Kimani expressed confidence that the team has overcome any debut nerves and is prepared to showcase their capabilities. “In the two weeks since our last game, we have trained rigorously. We’ve worked to address our offensive shortcomings, and the players are eager to prove themselves on home soil,” he noted.
The team has received an additional boost with the return of striker Jesse Were, who brings a wealth of experience after spending nine years in Zambia. “Jesse is a professional who knows what it takes to excel in these competitions. His presence will be invaluable for us,” Kimani added.
Zamalek, who last visited Kenya in 2021, will look to assert their dominance, but Police FC is ready to rise to the occasion in this thrilling encounter at the Nyayo National Stadium. The match promises to be a test of skill, strategy, and determination for both teams as they vie for supremacy in African club football.
