Kenya Power announces planned power interruptions across multiple regions

    Kenya Power has announced power interruptions in several parts of the country on Friday to facilitate maintenance works.

    In a statement on Thursday, September 11, the company confirmed that the outages will affect four counties: West Pokot County, Kakamega County, Nyeri County, and Kiambu County.

    In West Pokot County, residents in the Sarmach and Kainuk areas will experience power interruptions from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Friday, September 12, 2025.

    The scheduled maintenance will affect customers in Orwa, Lami Nyeusi, Kainuk, Sarmach, Sekerr, and adjacent areas within the North Rift Region.

    Kakamega County will experience power outages under the Western Region operations in two separate areas. The Makunga area will be without electricity from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., affecting customers in Emukangu, Ebureka, Etabale, Shinoyi Market, Ebumamu, Khungoyosi, and surrounding areas.

    The Shikoti area will also face similar disruptions during the same timeframe. Customers in Shikoti, Shrakalu, Emachembe, Ebutanje, Ebushibo, Shihango, Esumeya, Eshiyenga, and neighboring locations should prepare for the eight-hour power interruption.

    In Nyeri County, the planned maintenance will affect the Kigogoini and Wandumbi areas from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Friday.

    Customers who will experience the outage include those in Kiriti Secondary School, Giakamaki TBC, Gachuiro, JW Gitahi, Cuba, Gakere Secondary School, Kigogoini, Wandumbi, Kamahuru TBC, and adjacent areas within the Mt. Kenya Region.

    Parts of Kiambu County, specifically areas around Ngoingwa, will experience power interruptions from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. under the North Eastern Region operations.

    The maintenance work will affect customers at Kilimambogo Millers, Behind TIBS, White Sisters, Ngoingwa Classic, Family Gardens, PCEA, Kisiwa, Mpesa Foundation, Karibaribi, Kawira, Makwa Boys, Makwa Dispensary, Makwa, Magumu, Gakui Service Center, and surrounding areas.

    Kenya Power indicated that the scheduled interruptions are necessary to facilitate routine maintenance works across the affected regions.

    The company typically conducts such maintenance activities to ensure the reliability and safety of the power distribution network, helping to prevent unplanned outages and maintain customer service quality.
