Kenya Power Warns Public Against Fraudsters Impersonating CEO Siror

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a strong public warning against fraudsters posing as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Eng. (Dr.) Joseph Siror, in a bid to solicit bribes and illegal favours from unsuspecting members of the public.

In an official statement released on Friday, the utility firm raised alarm over the increasing number of individuals impersonating senior officials, including the CEO, and attempting to con customers by promising illegal services in exchange for bribes.

“Kenya Power maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards bribery, fraud, or any unethical behaviour that violates the integrity standards expected of the company and its employees,” the statement read.

The company emphasized that all payments for electricity-related services must be made only through its officially sanctioned platforms. These include mobile money channels, designated banks, and Kenya Power banking halls. Customers are also urged to always request and retain receipts for any transaction made.

To counter the ongoing fraud attempts, Kenya Power is encouraging members of the public to exercise extra caution and report any suspicious persons or activities to law enforcement agencies or to the nearest Kenya Power office.

Furthermore, the company has advised customers to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a Kenya Power employee by dialling *977#, a service that allows real-time authentication of official staff.

“We urge our customers and the public to remain vigilant, report fraud, and partner with us in protecting the community from conmen and impersonators,” the company stated.

The warning comes amid a broader crackdown on corruption and illegal practices in Kenya’s public utilities sector, with Kenya Power reiterating its commitment to ethical service delivery and customer protection.

Members of the public can also contact Kenya Power’s customer service centers or use official company social media channels for any queries or clarification regarding services.
