Kenya Railways Denies Allegations of Land Grabbing and Illegal Evictions

Kenya Railways Corporation has strongly rejected allegations from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua regarding the illegal sale of land on Valley Road, Nairobi.

The two opposition leaders had accused the corporation of land grabbing, forceful evictions, and the unauthorized sale of the property, which they claim was originally meant for Kenya Railways’ retirees.

In a statement issued on Friday, March 14, Kenya Railways dismissed the claims as “misleading” and clarified that the disputed land remains its property.

The corporation emphasized that it was “not privy to any sale transaction” related to the property and reiterated that the matter is currently under judicial review.

The controversy erupted after Kalonzo and Karua held a press briefing in which they accused President William Ruto’s administration of using state power to facilitate land theft.

They further alleged that the General Service Unit (GSU) was deployed to secure the land after it was sold to a private developer.

Meanwhile, retirees, who claim the land was part of their pension, have staged protests demanding its return, citing illegal eviction and demolitions of their homes by the developer.

Kenya Railways urged the parties involved to allow the courts to handle the dispute.
