Kenya Railways has issued an official update following the sudden suspension of the 10 PM Madaraka Express passenger train from Mombasa to Nairobi on the night of July 6, 2025.
The disruption, which was caused by a technical hitch, left many travelers stranded and raised concerns over service reliability.
In a statement released by the management, Kenya Railways confirmed that efforts are underway to resolve the issue, and mechanisms have already been put in place to ensure all affected passengers reach their destinations.
“All affected passengers, including those who missed the earlier train, are advised to report to the Mombasa Terminus on the morning of July 7, 2025, by 8:00 AM,” the notice reads. Tickets dated July 6 will remain valid for boarding and travel.
The management reiterated that the suspension was solely due to a technical fault, emphasizing that passenger safety remains their utmost priority.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank all passengers for their patience and understanding,” the statement concluded.
Passengers are advised to stay updated through official Kenya Railways communication channels as operations gradually normalize.
The timing of the SGR breakdown comes after an earlier impromptu stop and search for hundreds of Kenyans who had travelled to Diani for the Summer Tides festival.
Stranded commuters alleged the government was preventing them from travelling to Nairobi for the Saba Saba protests.
