Kenya Railways has welcomed a delegation from the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Green Cities team in a strategic engagement aimed at advancing the Nairobi Railway City Project.
Kenya Railways Managing Director, Mr. Philip Mainga, hosted the visiting team on Thursday, underscoring the government’s commitment to building a modern, sustainable, and climate resilient urban transport hub.
The Nairobi Railway City Project, a flagship development under the Kenya Vision 2030 agenda, seeks to transform the area surrounding the Nairobi Central Railway Station into a world-class multimodal transport and commercial hub.
During the visit, the FCDO delegation toured the Nairobi Railway Station and inspected ongoing works under Phase 1 of the project.
This includes the construction of a modern footbridge designed to improve commuter movement and connectivity within the city.
The FCDO Green Cities programme supports global initiatives to foster sustainable urban growth, focusing on transport systems, energy efficiency, and waste management.
Through its Green Cities and Infrastructure Programme, FCDO aims to provide technical expertise to ensure climate-smart infrastructure in developing nations.
Kenya Railways noted that the collaboration will enhance technical support, promote environmentally friendly solutions, and accelerate the completion of the Nairobi Railway City Project.
The project is expected to boost public transport efficiency, decongest Nairobi’s CBD, and contribute to Kenya’s climate action goals.
