Kenya has so far recorded more than 72,000 cases of the Coronavirus, after less than a million tests carried out since March 23rd. – By Gerald Gekara.
While announcing the statistics through a press statement, the Ministry of Health alo confirmed that so far 1,313 people have died from the virus, which is fairly low as compared to other countries.
In the latest tally, Kenya recorded 957 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s total caseload to 72,686.
Nairobi recorded (368) cases, Nyeri (53), Kitui (41), Kiambu (40), Kisumu (37), Nyandarua (35), Mombasa (34), Uasin Gishu (34), Kakamega (33), Homa Bay (31), and Nakuru (28).
Other cases were reported as follows; Machakos, Kericho and Makueni each recorded (21) cases, Kirinyaga (19), Kajiado, Siaya, Embu each recording (18) cases, Isiolo (15), Narok (13), Nandi (10), Laikipia (9) while Kilifi and Marsabit confirmed (7) cases each.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 908 are Kenyans had been infected in the new data, with the rest being foreigners.
At the same time, 2,616 patients recovered from the disease, 2,434 were discharged from the home-based care program and 182 from the hospital around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 49,878.
While explaining the severity of the situation, CS Kagwe added that 1,191 patients are admitted in health facilities, while 6,000 are on home-based isolation and care.
58 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 37 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 26 on supplemental oxygen.
Another 89 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 72 are in the general wards, while 17 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Currently, 2,369 health care workers have tested positive for the virus of whom 1,186 are males and 1,183 are females.
