Kenya records spike in COVID-19 cases, as 5 more die

Kenya has recorded a spike of 183 new cases of the coronavirus. The tally of confirmed cases now rises to 36,576. – By Gerald Gekara

In a statement, the Ministry of Health announced that a total of 4,188 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, raising Kenya’s total testing portfolio to 509,176.

14 cases are foreign nationals while the rest are Kenyans aged between 8 months and 80 years old. In terms of gender, the ministry announced that 131 of the new cases are male whereas 52 are female.

In terms of counties, Nairobi led with (54) new cases, Kisumu (26), Mombasa (20), Trans Nzoia (16), Kericho (11), Nakuru (10), Kisii (7), Machakos (6), while Meru and Turkana each had (5) cases.

Lamu, Nyeri, Siaya and Kiambu reported (3) cases each, while Kajiado, Homa Bay, Busia, Samburu, and Kilifi recorded (2) cases each. Embu and Kakamega each had (1) case.
