Kenya Rises in FIFA Rankings Amid AFCON Qualifiers Success

Kenya has made marginal gains in the latest FIFA rankings, climbing from position 108 to 102, according to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association’s report published on Thursday, September 19.

The country’s score improved by 11.23 points, bringing Kenya’s basis points to 1208.96, up from 1197.73 in the previous ranking.

This marks the most consistent upward movement for Kenya in the past five years as the national team, Harambee Stars, continues to edge closer to the top 50 globally.

Kenya’s highest-ever ranking was 68 in 2008, while its lowest was 137 in 2007.

Among East African teams, Uganda was ranked highest at position 90, followed by Tanzania at 110.

Somalia, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan held positions 102, 136, 130, and 172, respectively.

Kenya’s rise follows an impressive performance in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Harambee Stars recently secured a 2-1 victory over Namibia, propelling them to the top of their qualification group.

The improvement comes as Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen pushes for reforms within the Football Kenya Federation, aiming to enforce compliance with the Sports Act and improve management within the organization.
