Kenya Sevens Beat Canada, to Face Fiji Trophy Semi-finals

Shujaa will now face double Olympic champions Fiji in the Challenge Trophy semi-final, also known as the ninth place semi-final, at 12.16pm on Saturday.

Kenya Sevens won their first match of the 2022-2023 World Rugby Sevens Series on Saturday, defeating Canada 17-7 to advance to the Dubai Sevens Challenge Trophy semi-finals. Shujaa, who trailed 7-5 at the half, scored three tries and converted one to earn their first victory in nine games.

Kenya Sevens finished last in the first leg of the Series last month in Hong Kong, losing all five matches.

However, there was a noticeable improvement at the Dubai Sevens, where they drew twice against Australia (19-19 and 14-14), but lost to South Africa 27-12 in Pool “A.”

They dropped to the Challenge Trophy for their first win, defeating Canada 19-14 in the pool stage of the Hong Kong Sevens.

Kenya took the lead with a try from Herman Humwa, but Brok Webster converted Josiah Morra’s try to make the score 7-5 at halftime.

Then Kevin Wekesa and Billy “The Kid” Odhiambo crossed the line, and Anthony Omondi converted to seal the victory for Shujaa.

Fiji defeated Uganda 29-14 to set up the match with Kenya.
