All flights between Kenya and Somalia were suspended with immediate effect by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) on Tuesday, May 11.
Only medevac flights and United Nations flights on humanitarian missions were removed from the order.
The reason for the flight cancellations is unknown.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo of Somalia are due to meet in Kampala on May 12, 2021, during President Yoweri Museveni’s inauguration ceremony.
The decision to halt flights came only a week after Somalia declared that diplomatic relations with Kenya had been restored following a dispute over a maritime border.
