President William Ruto has announced that the Kenyan government can support its police officers deployed in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti until March 2025.

Speaking during a joint press briefing with Haiti’s Prime Minister Garry Conille, Ruto refrained from disclosing the specific units involved but assured that resources are in place for the officers on the ground.

Ruto revealed that an additional 600 Kenyan officers are currently undergoing pre-deployment training and will soon join the mission.

He called on the international community to increase its support for the mission, which has a renewed mandate extending to October next year.

Prime Minister Conille emphasized the importance of the Kenyan contingent, noting their significant role in weakening gang control in Haiti.

The mission has successfully reclaimed key sites, including the general hospital and the National Palace.

However, Conille urged other countries to fulfill their financial commitments to ensure the mission remains fully operational.

Beyond security, Ruto and Conille discussed enhancing trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Kenya and Haiti.

Both leaders stressed the need for economic growth and social connectivity as crucial elements for long-term stability in Haiti.
