The British High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Neil Wigan, met with Mr. Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.
The two spoke about potential areas of cooperation, particularly with regard to the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which includes the implementation of the Digital Superhighway.
The CS stated that the government has launched a number of measures to promote digital transformation, such as the creation of innovation hubs, the digitization of government documents, and the digitalization of government services.
He underlined the value of collaborations between the Kenyan and British governments in advancing open learning, e-commerce, and smart cities, which are supported by Konza Technopolis.
Collaborating Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) was another topic of discussion during the meeting.
In relation to Digital Access programmes and other developing technologies, the ambassador stated that the UK government is prepared to collaborate with Kenya.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Colin Sykes, the Lead Science Technology, Innovation for the British Commission, and Mr. Charles Juma, the Country Lead UK Digital Access programmes.
Notable representatives from the Ministry in attendance included Mr. Emmanuel Kimeu, Secretary, ICT, Security, and Audit Control, as well as CS’s advisors.
