Kenya Reaffirms Ukraine Support; Vows To Implement Trade, Political Agreements

Kenya and Ukraine have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation following the third round of political consultations between the two nations, held virtually on Monday.

The high-level meeting was co-chaired by Amb. Josphat K. Maikara, Director General for Political & Diplomatic Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and Maksym Subkh, Ukraine’s Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa.

The two sides discussed a broad range of issues, including bilateral trade, agriculture, medicine, education, technology, and regional security.

Both parties noted the positive trajectory in trade recovery, with Ukraine proposing the intensification of dialogue between the countries’ agricultural ministries, private firms, and business associations.

“Despite attacks on our ports and grain facilities, Ukraine continues to supply food through a secure sea corridor, reaffirming our role as a guarantor of global food security — especially for Africa,” said Subkh.

Kenya, in turn, invited Ukrainian companies to invest in its Special Economic Zones and leverage Nairobi’s position as a regional tech and logistics hub. Ukrainian officials also praised Kenya’s reputation as East Africa’s innovation centre, with strong mobile finance systems and IT infrastructure.

Importantly, Kenya reiterated its firm stance on respect for sovereignty and the UN Charter, affirming Ukraine’s territorial integrity amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The sides also pledged joint efforts to counter hybrid threats, particularly cyber and disinformation campaigns linked to external actors.

Both governments agreed to formalize more bilateral agreements, increase high-level exchanges, and explore new avenues of cooperation.
